Joint Statement: SWA and CADA
The visit to Scotland from the China Alcoholic Drinks Association (CADA), hosted by the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) and its member companies, is an important demonstration of our industries’ shared commitment to learning from each other and to support a thriving global spirits sector.
From China to Scotland, our world-class products are enjoyed by millions of consumers, each with a proud heritage that deserves to be respected and protected.
Amid a number of global challenges for spirits producers, the cooperation between our two sectors is a reminder that we share many of the same values and priorities, including the importance of barrier-free access to key export markets, tackling illicit alcohol, and the vital protection of geographical indications of origin.
This visit is an opportunity to work together to support high standards in the production of distilled drinks, ensuring that they can be safely and responsibly consumed, and to foster innovation that supports the sustainability of our sectors. We’re united in our support of a trading environment that enables both our industries to grow and thrive in our home markets and around the globe.
Mark Kent, Chief Executive of the Scotch Whisky Association said: “On behalf of the Scotch Whisky industry I am delighted to welcome the Chair of CADA Song Shuyu to Scotland. China remains an important partner in the distilled drinks sector, and a significant growing export market for Scotch Whisky. I hope CADA enjoy Scotland’s characteristic warm welcome to some of our member companies’ iconic Scotch Whisky sites, and that our guests appreciate seeing first-hand the blend of tradition and innovation that has made Scotland’s national drink so beloved around the world.”
Song Shuyu, Chairman of CADA said: It is a great pleasure for the delegation of the China Alcoholic Drinks Association to arrive in Scotland and hold face-to-face talks with the Scotch Whisky Association and industry representatives. We successfully completed the promotion of Chinese Baijiu, whisky and other spirits products at the World Distilled Spirits Conference, and were also very honored to visit and meet with representative distilleries in Scotland. We look forward to maintaining close contact and communication with colleagues in the Scotch whisky industry at all times. They are also welcome to come to China to learn more about our alcoholic drinks industry.
