Policy, Parliament & Promotion

The Scotch Whisky Association is heavily involved in policy developments impacting the industry. It also takes a leading role in promotion of the industry on behalf of members, for example in publicising Scotch Whisky's success in export markets.

Scotch Whisky attracts political and media interest from around the world. The SWA, primarily through the Government and Communications Department, is often the voice of the industry.

As well as positive promotion, the SWA fields media enquiries on a range of industry-wide issues.

Last year, a focus for the SWA was the promotion of its Centenary celebrations.

• Parliament

  The Scotch Whisky Association works with the Scottish and UK Parliaments to ensure the Scotch Whisky industry's views on issues are listened to and understood.

• Cross Party Group

  The Cross Party Group (CPG) on Scotch Whisky meets at the Scottish Parliament between three and four times each year.

• Minimum pricing

  The Scotch Whisky Association believes Minimum Unit Pricing of alcohol is illegal, will be ineffective in tackling misuse and will damage the Scotch Whisky industry.

• All Party Group

  The All Party Group (APG) aims to promote and facilitate communication and understanding between representatives from the scotch whisky and spirits industry and MPs.
