UK Green Investment Bank distillery biomass boiler programme

10 Dec 2015

The Edinburgh-based UK Green Investment Bank (GIB) has, through fund manager Equitix, been investing in the installation of biomass boilers in Scotland's distilleries for the past two years, helping the industry to modernise, become more energy efficient and reduce its carbon footprint.

The new biomass boilers, which are fuelled by sustainably sourced wood pellet fuel, replace the heavy fuel oil boilers that the distilleries have historically relied on as a result of
their relatively remote locales.

The boilers, which produce the steam necessary for whisky production, reduce the distilleries' energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
