The Lofstedt Review

12 Jul 2011

The Government has established an Independent Review of Health and Safety legislation to make proposals for simplifying the existing raft of health and safety legislation. The review is considering the opportunities for reducing the burden of health and safety legislation on UK businesses while maintaining the progress made in improving health and safety outcomes.  Health & safety regulations create significant additional burdens on companies within the Scotch Whisky industry, particularly the COMAH Regulations.  The SWA's response highlights concerns about costly regulatory creep with little financial justification or benefit to site health and safety.  The SWA does not want to see any additional and unnecessary legislation and believes the HSE should spend more time and effort focussing on those companies and sectors which are non-compliant and poorer performers.
