SWA Response to Smith Commission

31 Oct 2014

The Scotch Whisky industry is a significant national economic and cultural asset that boosts growth and jobs, supports the communities in which it works, and that combines the best of the traditional and modern.

The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) is the industry's trade body, whose 56 member companies account for around 95% of the sector.  The SWA represents the industry, at home and abroad, by pursuing a competitive tax and regulatory environment, by protecting the category 'Scotch Whisky' from unfair competition, and by promoting sustainable business practices and the responsible use of alcohol.

The SWA believes the recent Scottish referendum debate demonstrated the need for politicians and business to collaborate better to address long-term economic challenges. In that context, we welcome the opportunity to play a constructive role in the work of the Smith Commission.
