Speyburn Distillery ensuring Good Water status

10 Dec 2015

Speyburn Distillery which is owned by Inver House Distillers underwent a substantial upgrade and capacity increase which started in 2014 and was completed in March 2015

As part of the planning process for the production volume increase there were discussions with Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) on the variation of the abstraction licence for both the process and cooling waters. A specialist consultant was engaged to carry out detailed hydrometric assessments and flow reports for the Granty Burn (process water) and Broad Burn (cooling water) which supply Speyburn. The results of these surveys were then used when planning the expansion project to ensure that there wouldn't be a significant impact on the watercourses concerned especially during periods of low flow.
