Scotch Whisky sector supporting a low carbon economy

10 Dec 2015

The Scotch Whisky industry is committed to helping Scotland reach its ambitious greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. The Scotch Whisky industry launched its far-reaching Environmental Strategy in 2009 - the first industry-wide strategy of its kind in Scotland. Energy forms a core plank of the strategy - distillers have committed to sourcing 20% of primary energy requirements from non-fossil fuel by 2020 and 80% by 2050. We are currently standing at 17%, so are well on our way to meeting the target.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing non-fossil fuel use remain the cornerstones of the Scotch Whisky industry's efforts to drive our green agenda, to make manufacturing more sustainable, while support a low carbon economy.
