Consultation on the Future of the Fire & Rescue Service in Scotland

21 Apr 2011

The Scottish Government is considering three options for reform.  Many of the Scotch Whisky industry's sites are located in rural areas and may be some distance from emergency service depots or stores.  The industry faces many risks and fire is one of its greatest threats.  The SWA's response highlights the desire to apply fire safety legislation consistently across Scotland and hopes this will lead to transparency and consistency of approach.  The SWA supports the option for a single service but has concern that should fire and rescue provision be reduced, the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service may not be adequately resourced to tackle any major fire, particularly at sites in remote areas adjacent to housing.
