A Guide for the use of the Distillers’ Renewables Tool

06 Sep 2012

The Scotch Whisky Industry Environmental Strategy sets tough environmental targets.

By 2020, 20% of the industry's energy use should come from non-fossil fuel sources, rising to 80% by 2050. The Scotch Whisky Association in collaboration with Carbon Trust Scotland has produced a tool bespoke to the Scotch Whisky industry to provide a step-by-step approach to assess the feasibility of each available renewables technology on a site by site basis. The Distillers' Renewables Tool is freely available to all.

The Tool provides distillers with an opportunity to screen and assess the financial viability and technological suitability of a range of alternative energy technologies. It assesses how each technology performs commercially for each individual site assessed in terms of energy yield and commercial business case.

This Guide offers step-by-step instructions on the use of the Tool.

Please note that the tool is in an Excel format and is large (35MB) and so may take time to download. The tool uses a number of financial assumptions which were correct at the time of publication (Sept 2012).
