EU Membership

12 Nov 2015

SWA assesses benefits of European Union (EU) membership in evidence to Treasury Select Committee.

The SWA today set out in depth for the first time its assessment of the importance of EU membership to the Scotch Whisky industry.

In evidence to the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee, the SWA set out in detail, weighing pros and cons in a considered way, why remaining part of the EU's single market, intellectual property protection rules,  and common trade policy is of benefit to Scotch Whisky producers.

The evidence also sets out why it is desirable for there to be further reform of the single market, to eliminate national rules that generate needless complexity and cost for the industry, and a more energetically pursued trade policy.
